| DARK KNIGHT RISES, THE (Batman, The Dark Knight, Comic, Superhero, Adaptation)
PLOT: It should be noted that Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" is not solely based on any one comic book or graphic novel. The major inspirations behind the movie are 1993's Batman series "Knightfall", which introduced the villain Bane (Tom Hardy); 1986's "The Dark Knight Returns", which saw Batman return to Gotham after a 10 year absence; and 1999's "No Man's Land" in which a major earthquake strikes Gotham. Christain Bale reprises his role as the Caped Crusader and Anne Hathaway takes on the role of Selina Kyle. AUTHOR: Frank Miller

| HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, THE (Fantasy, Middle-earth, Dwarf, Treasure, Wizard, Adaptation)
PLOT: The Hobbit movie based on the book by J.R.R. Tolkien takes place decades prior to The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. It follows a young Bilbo Baggins as he journeys to Lonely Mountain to recover treasure that was stolen by the dragon Smaug. The film adaptation stars Martin Freeman as Bilbo, Evangeline Lilly as Tauriel and Ian McKellen as the wizard Gandalf the Grey. AUTHOR: J.R.R. Tolkien

PLOT: Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe), a prestigious lawyer working in Victorian England, seems to have it all but he holds a secret inside. In his younger years, he was sent to get a former client's affairs in order following her death, which is when his disturbing experience all began. | GREAT GATSBY, THE (Love, Passion, Wealth, Murder, Party, Socialite, Adaptation)
PLOT: Leonardo DiCaprio takes on the title role in director Baz Luhrmann's adaptation of The Great Gatsby. Luhrmann, who previously directed the musically infused Moulin Rouge! and Romeo + Juliet (also starring DiCaprio), promises to remain true to the novel, which tells the story of Jay Gatsby, a millionaire who pines for his lost love Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan). | HUNGER GAMES, THE (Post-Apocalyptic, Teen, Rebellion, Fight, Future, Death, Adaptation)
PLOT: Actress Jennifer Lawrence portrays heroine Katniss Everdeen, a teenage girl living in a post-apocalyptic America (now called Panem) who volunteers in place of her sister to fight to the death in the 74th Annual Hunger Games. The government holds the tournament each year in order to show its power in an effort to thwart future rebellions.
